Financial infrastructure
Money that answers to your business.
Digital wallets that keep money moving and the rand earning, with one integration into South Africa's payment systems and 37 African countries.
The problem
Africa banked itself but the money never followed.
A continent doesn't get richer because more people hold an account. It gets richer when each rand changes hands more times before it leaves. Right now it leaves almost as soon as it lands, and pays a toll at the door.
- Access
The accounts exist.
Four in five South African adults now hold one. Opening them turned out to be the easy part.
81%of adults hold an account - Behaviour
The money still leaves.
More than half of all consumer payments are still made in cash. For most people, the account is somewhere money passes through on its way out.
56%of consumer payments still made in cash - Leak
And leaving is expensive.
Sub-Saharan Africa is the most expensive place on earth to send money to. Every hop takes its cut, and the UN target price is less than half of what people pay.
~8%average cost to send across the continentUN target 3%
So we stopped counting accounts and started closing the loop.

The answer
We make the money follow.
Spendl is a regulated network. Money arrives however people choose to pay, moves between people without a fee, and only leaves when someone truly needs it outside. Your brand goes on the front, and our payments infrastructure and regulatory standing sit behind it.
Access
A wallet for everyone you serve.
Your customers get a branded wallet the day they sign up, bank account or not, and a card to go with it. It installs from the browser in three taps. No app store needed.

Money that stays, and keeps moving.
Inside your network, money moves between people without a fee and settles the moment it's sent. The rand keeps changing hands instead of leaving the day it lands.

A cheaper way out, when it must go.
One integration reaches banks, tills and merchants across South Africa and 37 African countries, with the rate locked and the fee on screen before anyone commits.

How it works
Money comes in, keeps moving, and only leaves when it has to.
However your customers pay, it ends up in the same network. Moving it around inside is free, and it only goes out when someone needs it outside.
- 01In
Money in, on every rail
Card, instant bank transfer, QR or cash at a Shoprite till. Whatever your customers already use lands in the same balance.
- 02Working
Money working, not waiting
Transfers, requests, bill splits and payout runs settle on the spot with no transfer fee. The balance in between stays yours.
- 03Out
Money out, only when it must
Money goes out to a bank, a card, a till or family elsewhere in Africa only when it needs to. Everything else stays in the network.
The Platform
Put your brand on it, or keep us behind the scenes.
Choose the branded wallet if you want a ready-made consumer product, or the Public API if you'd rather we stayed invisible behind yours. Both come with Aegis, our signed event feed.
White-Label Wallet
A branded app, cards and an operations console, with each flow switched on as your rollout grows. Your customers see your brand. We carry the regulatory standing.

The same infrastructure behind your own product. Onboarding, KYC, money movement and cards over one REST API, with webhooks coming back.

Every ledger posting leaves as a signed event your compliance tooling can subscribe to, kept separate for every business, with personal data masked to your policy.

Watch one rand keep working.
In a bank account, a rand does one job and leaves. On Spendl it keeps changing hands inside your network until someone needs it outside. Here's one afternoon of its life.
- Paid in at the till: Cash at a Pay@ till becomes wallet balance. Also PayShap, EFT, Card, Zapper QR.
- Sent to a friend: Wallet to wallet, with no transfer fee. Also Requests, Batch payouts.
- Split over dinner: Everyone pays their share, in the wallet. Also Airtime, Vouchers, Zapper merchants.
- Sent home: One of 37 corridors, rate locked first. Also Bank EFT, Cash Pickup, Mobile Wallet.

North star
Every rand should work more than once.
A rand that keeps changing hands does more good than one sitting in a queue. We're building the system that keeps it moving, and any business in South Africa can run on it.
Businesses that move money for other people: white-label platforms, corridor operators, lenders, insurers, employers and payroll bureaus. You're the buyer. Your customers get a wallet with your name on it, and we stay out of sight.
Business to business to whoever you serve. B2B2C would mean consumers only, but the people at the end of your programme might be customers, staff, borrowers, members or suppliers, so the X stands for all of them. You already have those people and their trust. What you probably don't have is regulatory standing, a ledger and years of payments plumbing, and building those is rarely the business you set out to run. We supply that layer and stay behind your brand. The relationship stays yours, and the regulatory weight stays with us.
A branded wallet from day one, and a card to go with it. They can fund it by card, instant bank transfer, QR or cash at a till, send to anyone in the network with no transfer fee, request money, split a bill, keep their loyalty cards, buy airtime and vouchers, hold crypto and turn it into rand on their card, and send money home to 37 African countries. Your support address is the one they write to.
No, and that's on purpose. The wallet is a progressive web app, so there's no store review, no approval queue and no waiting for people to update. Customers add it to their home screen in three taps and your icon sits beside every other app they use.
For most programmes, no. You operate under Spendl's regulated standing, and we carry the compliance, the reporting and the regulator relationship. If your particular model does need its own authorisation, we'll say so in the first conversation rather than the last.
Spendl operates as an FSCA-exempt Crypto Asset Service Provider and is registered with the Financial Intelligence Centre. Payment scheme processing runs through our licensed partner, Payaccsys, a registered System Operator and Third-Party Payment Provider.
Every rand that enters or leaves the network is attested on-chain as it moves, and the on-chain total is reconciled against the pooled trust account every 30 minutes. The record is written as it happens, not assembled afterwards.
Your developers can start straight away: once sandbox credentials arrive, most teams have money moving in the sandbox the same afternoon. Going live is hands-on: due diligence, configuration and UAT. Think weeks rather than quarters, and you'll be dealing with real people throughout.
No. Cross-border works two ways: through the Public API behind your own systems, or inside a branded Spendl wallet as a consumer product. Both run on the same corridors and the same Aegis event feed.
Usually most of it. Wallets, cards, remittance, collections and payouts collapse into one layer with one ledger behind it. Keep your bank account for whatever genuinely still needs a bank.
Settlement comes first, always. You can see your float, forecast it, and get an alert before coverage runs thin. Float that moves slowly doesn't have to sit idle: eligible capital in the pooled account earns interest while it waits, and how that is shared with you is agreed per client when we contract, not advertised on a website.
Every state change is journalled. Failures roll back cleanly, unmatched items go to a suspense queue, and your operations team resolves them from the console with the audit trail attached.
